This section is intended to serve as a guide 
rather than a strict specification. As a 
manufacturer, it is your duty to decide the 
variety of insulating glass units you plan to 
produce and accordingly tailor your design 
and choice of materials and equipment, as 
these decisions will substantially influence 
quality of the finished units.
Start by determining the type of insulating 
glass unit you will manufacture, whether 
it will be a single seal or a dual seal 
unit. Then, select suitable spacers and 
desiccants for the units you intend to use.
Spacer Frame Construction
Spacers should generally be cut to a length 
that is a minimum of 7/8" (22 mm) shorter 
than the glass length, to accommodate 
for sealant application and the overall 
dimensions of the glass. The exact length 
may need to be adjusted depending on 
the spacer’s width; wider spacers may 
require a larger adjustment. Ensure the 
spacer is set back from the glass edge to 
allow for an even application of sealant. If 
a consistent set-back is not possible on all 
sides, you may need to adjust the spacer 
frame. Handle spacers with care to avoid 
transferring any oil or contaminants from 
your hands. Use a fine-tooth saw blade and 
an oil-free solvent to clean the ends after 
cutting. Make sure there are no burrs on 
the spacers so that corners can be fully 
inserted for a snug fit.
Completing Spacer Frame
Once the spacer frame is assembled, it’s 
time to fill it with a desiccant to prevent 
moisture accumulation. Store the desiccant 
in a clean area to avoid contamination. Fill 
the frame thoroughly before applying the 
edge seal.
To finalize the spacer frame assembly, 
securely attach the corners. Choose corner 
keys that match the size of your spacer 
to ensure a tight fit. Improper selection 
or insertion of corner keys can lead to 
challenges during the assembly 
process and may result in 
deformation of the frame over 
time. Once these steps are 
complete, you are ready 
to begin assembling the
