Secondary Seal Method
When fabricating a dual sealed unit with 
FHC Silicone Insulating Glass Sealant 
Item No. 1G9542, follow these steps: 
PIB Tape Application:
Apply PIB Tape (Item No. P1B210) to one 
side of the assembled spacer frame as 
instructed, for the Primary Seal.
Silicone Sealant Application:
Use FHC Silicone Insulating Glass 
Sealant Item No. IG9542, available 
in cartridges and applicable with a 
standard caulking gun, but only in a 
dual seal system, as a Secondary Seal. 
Clamping Units:
Ensure a tight seal by clamping the 
glass units on all sides using Spring 
Clamps with vinyl-coated jaws.
Stack multiple units with separation 
using wood blocks or paper, with wood 
blocks for different-sized units and 
paper for units of the same size 
(max 15 larger units).
Check for Newton Ring:
Inspect the bottom units of the stack for 
a “Newton Ring” effect in the center of 
the unit. This occurs when two pieces of 
glass are in contact.
If you observe a Newton Ring, flip the 
affected units upright and repair them 
before transport to prevent permanent 
rub marks.
Following these steps using FHC 
Sealants will help ensure a proper seal 
and the longevity of your insulating 
glass units. 
Silicone Application:
Apply Silicone to the edges 
with a caulking gun, ensuring 
it penetrates the spacer 
shoulders for a proper seal.
Focus on the corners but avoid 
excessive sealant that could 
displace the spacer.
Excess Sealant Removal:
After curing, remove excess 
silicone with a razor blade, 
taking care not to damage 
the edge seal.
